Terrific Tuesday

Here’s how it went…

Interesting-looking students coming into the classroom in different stages of being dressed in costumes… PE class… Storybook Character Parade… Read-a-thon… shopping at the Book Fair…

After lunch I read aloud chapter six from the chapter book I’ve been reading. Ask your child what has happened with Abraham Lincoln so far. I played the guitar, and we sang songs to end the day.

Will your child be turning in a completed Book-It! paper on Friday? No one has yet. Doesn’t anyone want free pizza?!

We’re Back!

It’s the start of another quarter of 3rd grade, and things have been going like clockwork. Everyone seemed ready (or at least willing) to come back to school and continue learning and working. In the past two days, only two students have been counted, once each, and only to “That’s one.” Today the students shared their scarecrow glyphs that they made before Fall Break. Ask your child what his/hers tells about him/her.

I have begun reading aloud a new book from the Blast to the Past historical fiction series, Lincoln’s Legacy. Ask your child who the main characters are and what they think is going to happen in the story.

I love this quarter of school for so many reasons!

Whew!

I am sorry that I have not posted a message for over a week. I have been focusing on getting report cards and conferences ready. I just finished my 11th conference of the day, and the last one for Tuesday. Now I can get ready for tomorrow and I’m actually excited about it (after 6 p.m.). What a weird life!

Did your child tell you that each 3rd grade student received a dictionary last week? One local group (Rotary Club?) donates them every year. The students were very excited to get them and have already used the books. Did your child tell you about the “something special” that we did today? The Golder Ranch Fire Department visited the 3rd graders, bringing a fire truck and a safety house. Ask your child what he/she saw and did.

I finished reading The Trumpet of the Swan today. I really enjoy that story. The students named every character they could think of; the list (on the chalkboard) was very long. We went to the computer lab, and the students took the AR test for that book. Many students earned some or all of the six points the book was worth. Tomorrow, 14 students from our class will be getting a prize from the AR Store (prizes given in the library) for having five or more AR points. I am very proud of this accomplishment!
